For Hadean leader, see Nexus V.

Nexus, Scientist/King of the Hadeans is a short story by Andrew Goeldel, posted on BZ2MD in June 2005 as part of Uncle Avatar's Storytime. It depicts Nexus V overseeing the construction of the Hadean Cerberi and Hydras, and the early stages of the Furies.[1] Ten days later, Goeldel would publish a companion piece about Nexus' Olympian counterpart.[2]

Synopsis[]

Nexus V stands on a balcony in his palace in Necropolis, overlooking the city's industrial areas. Below, platoons of infantry and heavy units leave the city on their way to Venus.

Nexus' aides - referred to only as Alpha, Beta and Delta - voice their confidence in the weapons' strength against the Olympians, though Nexus himself, mocking them by feigning interest, disagrees. While the Shadow Priests and Hadean people are confident in victory, Nexus is convinced Paternus will not make victory easy.

After dismissing the three aides Nexus opens a secret door in his quarters and passes into his private laboratory, which is dominated by a vat in the center of the room. Within this vat, suspended in a dark liquid, is a mysterious entity he believes will bring about the Olympians' defeat.

Continuity[]

  • The story itself never explains the nature the vat's contents, instead leaving them mysterious; Goeldel later conceded it to be a Fury.
