Biometal (originally termed bio-metal and previously known as gelstone, though now more commonly known by its newer name) is basis upon which all warfare in the Battlezone Universe is based upon. Its unique chemical properties as well as its malleability and versitility render it a kind of super element, one capable of being used in a variety of roles, but most particuraly in warfare.

The origins of Bio-metal are shrouded in mystery. The leading Theory is that it was invented by the Cthonians, two races of beings inhabiting the planet of Cthonia (sometimes referred to as Icarus) to gain an upper hand over one another in their epic aeon long struggle with each other. The second theory is that it is much older, originating from a civilization referred to as the Prometheans as a fianl desperate attempt to stop the biological menace known simply as the Swarm. A Third theory is that Bio-metal is a by product formed by Milky Way Galaxy Black Hole. A final possibility is that Bio-metal may just be an inevitable discovery or creation that plays itself out over and over again in some kind of cruel cycle, with its users either using it wisely and reaching untold prosperity or destroying themselves through warfare over control of the substance or merging their consciousness with the metal, an often disasterous action. ( Notable exception being Armond Braddock's creations under Project Pedigree, who would go on to become the Scion Collective.)

The physics of Bio-metal as well as its exact chemical structure are still under intensive investigation. It is capable of being both a solid and a liquid under various temperatures and other physical circumstances, such a being liquid in the cold of Bane yet solid in the scolding heat of Venus. It also remarkably reisliant to most forms of convetional weaponry, save nuclear energy based weapons and perhaps rail cannons. However, the most practical means of destroying Bio-metal is with more Bio-metal, which may be a reason why so many cultures that discover it destroy themselves in warfare through one way or another.
